The Town and Our Many Beaches
The picturesque town of Lockeport extends like a thumb into the Atlantic Ocean. It offers all the amenities within walking distance. Enjoy fresh lobster and other seafood at local restaurants, unwind and relax in the peaceful surroundings or participate in a host of outdoor recreational activities in Shelburne County - including Nova Scotia biking, surfing, birding, hiking, kayaking and other pursuits. Children may use playgrounds or outdoor basketball and tennis courts located within minutes of Ocean Mist Cottages. In addition to the main beach, there are several smaller, more secluded Nova Scotia beaches, historic lighthouses and miles of rugged coastline to explore by foot or by boat.
Make Ocean Mist Your Lighthouse Route Base Camp
Shop for local crafts and feast on fresh seafood. Use your cottage as a "base camp" and take day trips to areas of the Lighthouse Route such as Shelburne and Keji Seaside Adjunct which are approximately 25 minutes away. Yarmouth (and The Cat Ferry) as well as Lunenburg and Mahone Bay are a little more than an hours drive. Even Peggy's Cove and Halifax, Nova Scotia’s largest city and main commercial center, are just over two hours away. Enjoy your day and relax knowing your beachfront cottage awaits your return.
And speaking of the Lighthouse Route, there are eight Nova Scotia lighthouses in Shelburne County, two of which are visible at the same time when entering the town of Lockeport. These stations have served as a warning and a guide to our local fleets since 1870.

Our oceanfront cottages offer a spectacular, panoramic view of one of the best beaches in Nova Scotia as well as Gull Rock Lighthouse, local fishing boats and a variety of seabirds. Let nature surround and captivate you with early morning ocean mist and afternoon sunshine. Enjoy a lazy, barefoot stroll along the white sandy beach or one of several other Nova Scotia beaches nearby, or sit on your deck and watch the white crested waves ride the clear, cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean. After you have enjoyed a day of sunshine and fresh sea air, let the sound of waves lull you to sleep.
Experience Nature at Its Best
If Nova Scotia hiking, biking or kayaking are among your favourite ways to experience nature, you will not be disappointed at Ocean Mist Cottages. The area offers excellent opportunities to pursue these recreational activities. Why not combine one of these adventures with a Nova Scotia surfing or bird watching tour, a deep sea fishing expedition or seaside photography workshop? Be sure to pack a lunch as you will find it hard to pull yourself away from your little piece of paradise.
Birdwatching and kayak tours may be arranged and our staff would be more than happy to point out some of the better Nova Scotia surfing destinations in the region. A walking-tour guide is also available at the Little School Museum and the Crescent Beach Centre. Architectural buffs are urged to view Nova Scotia's first Registered Heritage Streetscape located on South Street. The Locke Family Streetscape is comprised of five homes built between 1836 and 1876 in Colonial, Georgian and Victorian styles. Visit museums and genealogical centres which emphasize our history as a prominent shipbuilding and seafaring community. |
